POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE POSITION AT MIT

Allanore Research Group  – Materials Processing Center

Job Description:

Seeking a highly-motivated individual to join a research team, led by Professor Antoine Allanore, that aims to develop a new generation of fertilizers starting from local and inexpensive geological resources with the ultimate goal to address food security in tropical countries. The research is multidisciplinary involving geology, chemistry, materials science and chemical engineering. The candidate is expected to contribute proactively to devise and optimize processing technologies to synthetize potassium fertilizers from the mineral K‑feldspar. Mineral processing will involve mainly hydrothermal autoclaved experiments.  The candidate is also expected to investigate scaling up to industrial scale of processing technologies, requiring a research effort in reactor engineering and close collaboration with industrial partners.

The candidate must be familiar with standard chemical laboratory operating procedures, analytical techniques and data management. Furthermore, he/she will work with a multicultural and multidisciplinary team of colleagues, and must be able to work in such an environment. 

 Job Requirements:

Demonstrated track record of laboratory work and data interpretation; must possess excellent written and oral communication skills; PhD degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or closely associated disciplines; experience with complex experimental setups (e.g., autoclaves, distillation columns, etc.); experience with analytical techniques and materials characterization (e.g., SEM, FT‑IR, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, GC, HPLC); willingness to work in close collaboration with multiple stakeholders; team player; goal-oriented; international experience preferred; industrial experience preferred; technology scale-up experience preferred.
