Ilana Hirschfeld, Climate Communications Assistant

Ilana Hirschfeld is the Climate Communications Assistant at the Environmental Solutions Initiative. She came to ESI in January 2021 as a co-op from Northeastern University, where she is now completing her Masters of Environmental Science and Policy. From July to December 2022, Ilana was the Net-Zero Grid Fellow at the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), working on grid modernization and decarbonization policy for the Commonwealth.

Ilana was born and raised in San Diego, California. She has spent the last 16 years playing her violin in symphonic orchestras, both in San Diego and in Boston. She is currently a member of the Brookline Symphony Orchestra as well as a pit orchestra musician for Northeastern University’s premiere theater club, NUstage. In August 2023, Ilana will start her 2-year service as a volunteer in the Peace Corps, helping communities in Mexico to become more resilient to the effects of climate change.
