Sophia Apteker, Administrative and Communications Assistant

Sophia manages all social media platforms for the MIT ESI, from conceptualization and content creation through ongoing analyses. She also coordinates the weekly Environment & Sustainability Newsletter and manages the website’s content. Outside of her communications efforts, she organizes MIT ESI events and assists with logistics related to finance and travel.

Prior to the ESI, Sophia received a bachelor’s degree in journalism and integrated marketing communication, alongside a creative writing specialization, from UMass Amherst. Here, she worked as a digital communications assistant for the College of Humanities and Fine Arts and as a social media assistant at the Office of News and Media Relations. Sophia has also coordinated the social media strategy for Sound of Boston, a Boston-based music blog. During her senior year, she received The Class of 1940 Creative Writing Award, the top prize in fiction writing.

Sophia prides herself on having a library card and using it. She enjoys discovering new music and eating fruit in parks. Her interest in the environment stems from her rural upbringing in western Massachusetts, where she can be found exploring the gates of the Quabbin Reservoir.
